BLADE LIFE: Texas Scene Report 2011

Dallas

Dallas is a unique city full of bright lights, big spenders, and bottom feeders. In Dallas, rollerblading and life go hand-in-hand to form a conglomerate of good friends, great sessions, and a sense of pride in our scene. With over ten sub-cities that make up our metroplex, it’s no surprise that Dallas has birthed some of the most unique and stylish rollerbladers. One of the most influential aspects of the Dallas rollerblading scene is that there are always good bladers to look up to for inspiration. Take, for instance, D-town OGs Michael Stein, Chase Rushing, John Sullivan, and rest of the OPT (Orange Peeps Tribe) Crew. They most definitely laid the ground work for what Dallas rollerblading is today. The Dallas rollerblading scene is a very diverse crowd of characters from hip hoppers to rockers, pot head to alcoholics, but no matter how we have decided to live our personal lives, we always come together for the common goal of rollerblading fun. While most cities have one or two all-star bladers, Dallas is in a different category. With hard hitters such as Fritz Peitzner, Josh Glowicki, Brian Moore, John Sullivan, and the smooth styling of Troy Maimone, Keaton Newsom, Brady Johnston and Chase Rushing, just to name a few, Dallas has to be one of the most under-rated scenes on the planet (and if you disagree please YouTube any of the names above). I know that may come off as sounding a tad bit pretentious but hey, that’s Dallitude. In conclusion, Dallas isn’t just a city or a scene or a group of grimey kids out to destroy public property, it’s a family. — Josh Navarifar

    ahhh who talkin shit!…

  • Aaron Jacobs - June 26th, 2011

Fuck the Orange Peeps Tribe bullshit. Those bitches aren’t worthy of even saying they are from Dallas. John Sullivan, Brian Moore??!! Those fags inherited the ground laid by true o.g.’s like Shawn Robertson and Aaron Jacobs… and they did it poorly. Those kids are the reason rollerblading is associated with GAYNESS now.

  • alan - June 26th, 2011

Rollerbladers in SA hit me up at 2108272630 really want to learn new shit but i cant find anyone!

  • rolo - July 9th, 2011

I agree with A. Jacobs, although i dont remember him… Shawn Robertson was a true Professional, always talked to little kids and bladed hard!! Even then was still better than most pro’s today. He even gave me a pair of his old k2’s..but that was over 15 years ago, as far as today, the “sully and bmo” although i dont know those dudes personally, i cant talk bad about them, but i do think they act like they shit dont stink..both good in their own ways but come back down to DFW and respect all the bladers.. even the ones you know your better than..

  • joshnavarifar - July 18th, 2011

hey aaron jacobs and rolo. take your hate to another state. TX

  • Joe Rensland - August 26th, 2011

I’m from the Beaumont area, but now I’m living in Houston… Looking for some people to skate with. If anyones down shoot me an email?

  • bmo - April 2nd, 2012

lol. neither me or john claim to be “running shit.” We’re just doing what we like to do. If you want to put us on a pedestal and say we arent living up to what you guys did before us, then i’m sorry….but living up to what you or any of your friends did was never any kind of intention on our part. we’re just doing what we love. you haven’t put a pair of skates on in how many years? quit hating from the sidelines and find something to do other than talk shit on people who could care less if you’re even alive.

  • Michael Mogface - April 2nd, 2012

If I’d known this was being put together I probably could have arranged for an El Paso write-up – a city people have told me they’ve driven through it on their way to Texas. Not quite New Mexico, not quite Arizona, not quite Texas; those guys feel left out of everything.

  • JARROD MCBAY - April 3rd, 2012

Love this article shows how rollerbladers NEED to stick together and help each other out if not u might as well just get a skate board and support the haters. Great job!!!

  • Richyj - June 5th, 2012

ftw Big rich’ll put a toe roll in ya a$$

  • Jesse Meyers - June 6th, 2012

Aaron – There’s nothing derogatory about being gay, leave your homophobia outta this. Conflating anything with gayness to connote negativity is just something shitty people like you do. Grow up.

Jarrod – Rollerbladers, skateboarders and BMXers…we are all in the same club and if you treat them with respect they will treat you with respect. The only people causing problems are people with bad attitudes. Luckily, they are the minority. And there’s nothing wrong with being a rollerblader and a skateboarder or biker or whatever. There’s no rule you have to be one dimensional. You might be surprised to learn some of your favorite bladers also skateboard.
