Knowing full well we’d be mobbing the city streets I packed the filmer 8×80 blade set up. Rocking that through New York felt amazing. Rolling down to the bridge with our crew overrunning the street — no fucks given, per usual — was pretense to the dominating vibes blading put off at the skatepark.

This shot from the farside of Coleman around 1pm showed the bleachers starting to fill in and the last skateboarders getting in their tricks. Soon this was blades-only turf, except for the few enterprising dudes hitting the little angle iron lines at the far edge. But despite them pumping their iPods and doing their own things, they sure as shit noticed 1,200+ people and bladers at the park for the contest.

During the comp there was way, WAY too much skating for any one person to entirely take in. Just no way. But we did see this shirt. And we did get to talk to so many friends and we got to put some faces to names. And we got to hear the train roar by like 100 feet overhead every few minutes. Sensory overload. Somehow amidst the chaos of the contest Brian Lewis and I got to have the longest conversation we’ve had, ever? Maybe. Glad we finally found the time, ha ha.

Getting into the details of the contest is useless and probably open to too much interpretation anyway. You can literally see everything that happened if you watch all the edits. You should not be at all envious of those charged with judging this thing. There were a lot of nice tricks that got had. Pretty sure the Coleman regulars that hung around had never seen anything like it.
