Q&A with Mirek Ragan from Hedonskate.com

How about Poland and the Polish scene? What’s happening there — catch all us crazy Westerners up.
Poland is going well too. Before Hedonskate.com there was only ONE skatepark in Poland. Now all major cities have at least two parks, and all small towns have some place where you can start your journey with “extreme” sports. Okay, it’s true, we don’t have perfect parks, but we have them — so talking about progress, it’s a huge step for the whole Polish scene.

Also, we have PolishRollingLeauge. It works similar to the WRS but locally, here in Poland. We do it together with the Ministry of Sport in Poland which allows us to give out the title of champions. Yes, we do it official with the government, so titles are official from the Polish government!

Last year we had a travel agency as a main sponsor so our champ, Piotrek Combrzynski, in addition to money, prozes, and a trophy also got two weeks holiday in some exotic place together with his girlfriend. Moreover, bladers that are smart enough are getting scholarship or support from schools/universities to be part of it.

What other projects is Hedonskate involved with now?
Other big project is our shop in Eskilisuna, Sweden at infamous Zero One Six skatepark — we do it together with Frederic Anderson (his Dad owns park) so another project in blader hands. There is HUGE potential out there because Frederic, along with Igor, is doing an amazing job for the bunch of kids who are there. You can also read about them in ONE #18.

Who all does Hedonskate sponsor? And what do you look for in the people you support?
At the moment our main face is Nils Jansons. We also have a bunch of local skaters we support in Poland, Romania, Czech, Latvia and Sweden. This summer we want to find the right person for Germany. For all the years that I’ve supported so many skaters the thing which is the most important for me right now is personality. Shop rider is completely different then “boot” brand representative. Besides blading well you have to be a good person and not act like a superstar in front of kids and parents who decide where to purchase their next pair of skates.

In our history we had a few riders who after all of our support showed us real love, so now before I start supporting someone first we need to get to know each other better. He or she has to understand our mission, what we want to do!

What trends or patterns have you seen taking place or emerging in blading in the past 2–3 years?
As for industry, I noticed less brands. Maybe you tell me why? Where are people who believe in blading?

As for blading itself, there’s definitely more OG skaters coming back which is quite a positive vibe. I also really like the way our pros are presenting our sport to kids and the non-blade audience. It has changed in the last few years from big hammers to smart hammers which I think is much better for all of us.

Best-selling project at the shop?
USD skates and Hedonskate products.

A special customer call-out or special thanks?
Special thanks to all our customers who made that possible, if you are not there we are not existing ( and 6 bladers in 3 countries will not have dream-blade job )
Big HIGH5 to all hedonskate WORKING crew who is making that possible as well, what you can do if you don’t have right person following your ideas, nothing you can be just a dreamer 🙂

Love the Blader and F*ck the Haters !!
Peace

Thanks, Mirek. Here’s to the continued success for you and the shop and all the riders.
