Topsoul to Farside Soul to Gap

I had been wanting to go out and shoot with Ben for a while now but we never were able to get our schedules to line up. Finally, we found a Saturday that worked for the both of us. I packed my gear up in my car and we met down at the feature he had been wanting to hit. Upon getting there, we realized there was a “No Trespassing” sign made of metal tied to the rail with fencing wire. We had no way of cutting it, and figured the shoot was going to be a bust. After fifteen minutes or so of complaining about how awesome the one rail we had set out to shoot would have been, we decided to give another feature a try at the same location. It was this rusty, bent out of shape rail that was used to block a no-longer-existing road. After looking at it for a little bit, Ben decided he would give it a test hit; the rail worked. I set up my gear and three shots later we got this gem. In total I only shot fifteen photos at that spot, and five were lighting tests. Gear used was a Canon 5d, 50mm. 1.4 1/250 at F/8 3. Lights were an Alien bee 800, Nikon sb80, and Canon 540ex. — Bill Hickey

Have you ever gone out with you photography friend, already have a spot in mind that you really want to skate, and know what trick you want to do, but then you come to find out that there is a car at the end of the obstacle, or it’s capped, or there is a “No Trespassing” sign? This happened with Bill and I on a nice Saturday evening. At this point you feel bad and apologize to the photographer. But I was determined to get a great picture. At the same spot, there was this odd obstacle where you had to jump between a pole to a gate grind shaped like a capital “S,” and then had to gap out into the parking lot. The results were as shown.
