Sound Check: Tennis

Wife and husband duo Tennis (Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley) rolled through Salt Lake City tonight to serenade the scummy dance venue locals lovingly know as the Urban Lounge. This was the first stop on their tour to promote their whimsical new album, “Young & Old.” The Denver couple has added one more band member than Wikipedia claimed and I can only assume this added more to their live sound.

After I locked up my bicycle outside I found myself two songs deep into their ridiculously catchy set. The dance floor was hoppin and there were the standard amount of babes you’d expect at this type of show. There was even a few 40-somethings cutting a rug with the young crowd, proving that this type of infectious sound isn’t just for the kids.

Right on cue, the naive crowd chanted, “ONE MORE SONG!” as opposed to the traditional, “ENCORE!” The band did not refuse the invitation and came back to literally play just one more song. My ears aren’t ringing and the show has been over for an hour. This meets my criteria for a great live music experience.

Check out Tennis’ website at tennis-music.com for more information on when they’ll be playing in your neck of the woods.
