BLADE LIFE: In The Netherlands for Winterclash

After attending our first Winterclash last year, ONE was for sure onboard for another European adventure to this year’s event. Though only one half of the ONE duo would be able to make the trip, on the Thursday preceding the contest JE met up with Sean and Colin Kelso, Adam Killgore, Montre Livingston, Jonjon Bolino and Jeff Stockwell in Amsterdam to unwind, pick up a rental van, and get on the road to Belgium. But as we all know, that was not to be. So instead we headed to Eindhoven, which meant all five days of our trip would be in The Netherlands. An unexpected surprise leading to the most hectic Winterclash to date. This is how it went down on our end. — ONE

As our gang followed our AMS host Dennis to his apartment we passed this chick feeding the pigeons. All I could think about was that she’d need a tetanus shot or something. Beautiful but gross.

A happy Montre walks out of his first shop.

Another gratuitous canal shot from Amsterdam.

This sign made Jeff so happy. Anyone who saw him skate Winterclash knows all about “Jeff Art.”

Long-recommended by our friend Brian Shima, we finally found this shop. The dudes inside were super cool.

Montre doing some prep work.

Wow, I have no idea what time this picture was taken, but it was late as shit and dark. Mayhem in the streets.

Of course it started raining just in time for our drive. Good thing we have JJ and his crew to follow to Eindhoven.

Dudes in the back got to catch up on some rest.

Jonjon heads into the Area 51 skatepark through the graffiti tunnel.

All the homies converged in Eindhoven and mobbed the food and entertainment spots. Killgore tries to direct traffic towards the mini red light district.

Later on Friday night Sean took a little tumble and jacked his finger. After some advice from Haffey and the rest of us, he got it back into place.

Our host in Eindhoven was Ralf van de Kerkhof (Ralf The Man), and thanks to an Anti-Squatting initiative in Holland he and some friends live in an old school building. This is their indoor grind box.

Is this an All-American combo or what? Maybe it’s not, but it’s the closest you can get at Winterclash.

Before the contest got started, I found Dominik Wagner giving this interview.

Despite the unfortunate fire and the last-minute move to a different park, the massive Winterclash crowd showed in force. This pic shows only one small part of the entire mob.

This post would be completely incomplete without a big shout out to our extremely helpful guide, “Kevin.” Thanks for putting up with our shit and leading us around Eindhoven. We’d have been lost without you.

As the clock nears 5:30 am Dutch time, our all-night wait session draws to an end. In just a few minutes we’ll head out for the highway and hope not to get too lost. (Wish us luck!) That didn’t stop Killgore from making a few last posts on the messageboards.
