WEB ROLL #20: Flippin’ Out for VG Roots

If you’ve ever gone anywhere near a blade message board, then you’ve probably been exposed to the Mamba phenomenon. His search for what some may call a fictitious product knows no bounds. And this week it’s just one of the blade-o-sphere goings-on that came across Krans’ screen. Thought you knew about board-rage at the skateparks? Read the rest to see just how wrong you are… — ONE

An Ode

Because this is my 20th week of ramblings and nonsense, I dedicate this section to the most influential thing to even happen to online blading: the search for VG Roots.

The person who lives in blading infamy, most commonly known as “Mamba,” has been searching for the mysterious video, one VG filmmaker Dave Paine doesn’t even knows exists. But, fellow bladers, do not be swayed by imitation VG Roots, such as the VG20 Roots you can easily rent from NetFlix.

The one he is looking for is from circa 1999, not circa 2002.

Even in threads from long ago, our valiant little scamp Mamba has been taking time away from 720 front farvs to find the elusive tape. (Yes, you read that right, tape.)

Because his efforts have been so noble, even Web sites like http://www.vgroots.com/ were created to help the cause.

No matter how many times he’s banned from message boards, changes his username or gets banned again, Mamba keeps searching.

Go forward, brave Mamba, no matter how ridiculously stupid your adventure may be.

Text: Why do you guys have a hotline?

Victor Arias: Why don’t you have a hotline?

The Valo team is on tour — again — filming for 4Life. A new addition to their Cali leg of the filming, which will include the AIL World Finals and the World Rolling Series finals in Vegas, is the Valo Hotline. They’ve set up a phone number for calls and texts.

They’ve made a series of videos to go with them, including making Dean Coward skate on command. With some surprising gay overtones, even some mentioning cats — which is gayer than AIDS — the calls made for some ensuing hilarity.

But no one deserves more recognition than the last caller in this edit. Doug, had a few things to say about… everything.

Ubiquitous Item of the Week

This is just sad fucking news. Sure, it’s a business decision for the Conference to handle all of their U.S. endeavors, but what Integrated has done for Midwest blading has been amazing.

Mark Vanderbaugh, the head of Integrated and Six Won Six, is the king of hospitality, sponsoring comps and always letting out-of-town bladers hit up the skate park they built inside an old pizza factory. It’s one of the best parks built under a ramp.

Whatever happens with Integrated, I hope it is good.

(On a side note, buy the BCSD ’09 DVD. It rules!)

Comment of the Week

While I didn’t major in biology in college, I have some common sense. Here are questions for next time:

  • Does your sweat normally smell like Old English that has passed through your excretory system?
  • Do you normally sweat profusely from your crotch?
  • Was it even warm in your room?
  • Why must you share these things on the Internet?
  • Arts and Crafts Day

The next time you have all your blading buddies over for a post-skate sesh bender and you’re feeling creative, there’s a way to make sweet music on your skates using garbage.

Or, that’s at least what got some dude named Michelle on The Late Show with our favorite late night playboy, David Letterman. The clip can be found on FaceBook here.

Pretty sure VG Roots WAS released. That was one of the premier rolling flicks of its time around 98 or 99(if im not mistaken)

Now lets switch over to another prime focus of skating nowadays:getting our proper prime media spot for the upcoming AIL at Woodward Tehachapi.

Cant think of a good enough reason not to spread the word onto my Jewish buddies that the sport I avidly partake in is being ousted as far as media coverage.

Cant think of a good enough reason not to tell my Jewish buddies about how amazing Aggressive Inline is and the benefits of featuring a sport as all-around extreme as ours is.
