The Art of Conversation with B. Love

This begins what will be an ongoing series. The goal isn’t to reach some sort of goal… it’s to highlight the evolution of the conversation that has become adapted with the advent of social media. I’m not going for rocket science here. Just raw, random (or not) content sampled from conversations between invited guests and myself. These people know the deal — it will become public. Depending on the result, either a portion or the entire conversation will be used. As you’ll see in the conversations, I’m not trying to win a grammar award (even if I wanted to I couldn’t), I’m a loose chatterbox… I didn’t pass any tests to create this series.

Jay Dick: Yooo you in there? I wanna make a theme for some posts I’ll do at ONE website, it will be “Conversations”, it’ll be with people we know mostly in skating and so on, It’ll go on in a fb or email chat… just conversations really.. any topic… you down for the first one?

B Love: yeah for sure

Jay Dick: nice;) I’m thinking just, kinda let it go here knowing when we start and saying when it’s over and en-between those are the ‘conversations’ mmm should we bust one starting now? (no rush, no deadline… just knowing it’s on records and let it unfold..ha?)

B Love: ha, good idea. im about to be out so lets start later. cool?

Jay Dick: all good for sure hit me up, enjoy and thanks man

Later, on Monday

Jay Dick: yioo I’m just gonna hit you up until it works, so If I see ya online I’ll be like ‘you wanna give it a go

ha

no sweat

B Love: Hey! I am working but we can make this a slow go convo? Yeah?

Jay Dick: yeah yeah all good then for sure, mm welp from here then *START* (?) ha

B Love: Jay, where the hell have you been? Haha

Jay Dick: hahah sheet right, My lady started her school program out here in Tempe, AZ so I followed like her linus blanket, but yeah it gets HOT out here

long time man, last I remember being in the same room with you I think was a party at Evan Stones, maybe Birthday LONG time ago ha

what are you working on now?

B Love: I am a senior editor at a rebrand/start-up media website here in LA. Cutting this short form show about this awesome human named Don Bowie. He is a high altitude climber. Climbs mountains like Mt. Everest and K2 with no bottled oxygen or guides. He is attempting to climb Annapurna later this year, which is one of the most dangerous mountains to climb. The last two times he has attempted it, people have died from avalanches or high altitude pulmonary edema. Crazy crazy stuff man. He had to leave a climbing partner on the mountain in 2008 and the dude is still up there.

Jay Dick: Good god that’s really interesting stuff, mind blown a little, I like that feeling ha

you went to the Blade Cup right?

mmm I mean… You ever been to one of those mountains?

I grew up near the Blue Ridge Mountain range and went a couple times as a kid, but aside from that and the small snowboarding spots near L.A. …. I’ve have never seen a “Real” mountain in person.

B Love: I have never been to any of those real mountains. I mean, I would like to but to climb them is a whole other animal. And I definitely wouldn’t so it the way this dude does.

I did go to the Blade Cup! I was with Dion Antony and Wedge was in town. We lived! The event was amazing and I can’t wait for the next one. You better make it!

Jay Dick: For sure aaaha, I will next year, (fingers crossed*) I can’t imagine climbing a mountain, too wild for me but f’n amazing.

How was it up there at the Cup, are people typically ‘clique’ or has a lot of that worn off with age? I know when I was growing up shit seemed really highschooly.. but maybe that’s cause I was in highschool.. ha

B Love: The cup was amazing. There were a lot of hard working skaters running around making things happen and it was inspiring. The amount of skater contribution to this whole event is unprecedented. It’s something you really can’t hate on at all. As far as being like high school, I wouldn’t call it “clique”, but people will always hang with their crew.

Jay Dick: indeed, indeed.. we’re having Lasagna tonight.. my stomach doesn’t do cheese to well, yay. I wanna try to prevent this from becoming interviewy with out forcing it or contriving it to not be interviewy? you know? arggg hmm

I think though, it should be what ever it is and that should be fine… so…. yeah.
what are your thoughts about this whole thing.. the “Conversations.”

Jay Dick: I’ve got it… I think* each one will start out the same way… me discussing the idea of a ‘conversation’ with someone… you for starters;) and from there.. the conversations can trail into anything.. it will give them continuity and help us understasnd the way we define what we think we are doing;)?? good idea or overthinking ha?

Jay Dick: WE* not “me” ha my bad

B Love: ahh got ya

Jay Dick: that make sense really? ha

B Love: I feel ya

Jay Dick: kk

so like. ha, you use internet accronyms like LOL and stuff?

B Love: someone mentioned lasagna today at work
I want some now

Jay Dick: mmm heh my lady just found out and now her mouth is watering

nice nice

you still in the l.a. or what? I might have forgot already

B Love: when is the last time you skated man

I do, in Venice

Jay Dick: hmm the last time I skated was… with (nice, must be awesome to have stability like that with living situation)… hmm skating.. sheesh it’s been awhile… I had this surgery thing that knocked me out of getting back on the horse. I think that last time was at Tempe skate park with my buddy Brent, just coasting the transition:) you?

Jay Dick: and that was what… 3 four months ago…

B Love: I skated Saturday.

Jay Dick: wew boardwalk or you grinding n stuff?

how can your knees n stuff still take it?!

B Love: both, bikepath doing sandies and did some souls on the Ocean Park ledges

Jay Dick: ahah classic

B Love: my knees hurt still

Jay Dick: wew yup, you had surgery on those guys before or what?

B Love: a few surgeries on the right one took me out of the game

Jay Dick: sheesh, ever thought maybe not having surgery was a good idea? I think back sometimes thinking prolly should of had surgery… like ACL and MCL issues in each knee yuk

B Love: I had to! My shiza was jacked

Jay Dick: ahah dammm

B Love: tore ACL in half doing a stair gap to street then tore cartilage moshing at a 311 show. wth

Jay Dick: I think the worst fall for me was slamming my head into the concrete from second story… face first… still sensative and piant there now

funkkkkk not even skating!

wait wiat

you were skating??

B Love: haha totally

Jay Dick: jesus

so it was like a dem or somethin, wew that musta sucked

demo*

B Love: nah moshing dude

Jay Dick: ahh yes I c now ha

B Love: you know

Jay Dick: muh bad

I always pretty much failed at the mosh thing… I know it’s not rocket science, but I’m all ghandi like… lol nad moshing was danger stranger for meha

B Love: I still go to 311 shows man. I been to over 120

Jay Dick: that’s wild, I rememebr you or Brian Smith invited all of us to Nick Hexx’s Bday one year… the same party I got so trashed that Ryan Jacklone stole the opportunity to pee on me;/ Remember that? bahah terrible

B Love: hahahaha he did?
amazing. Ryan was just trying to pee on people cause Andy Kruse peed on him multiple times

Jay Dick: I swear or at least that’s what I was told.. and In fact I do have some hazey memory of it… sigh bahahah

I heard huh lol, made me feel a bit better lol, f’n jackalone, those dudes were wild, I can’t believe most of us were kids…

so you still rock out with Nick right, you guys went to high school together or what? I saw back a bit that you were on this cruise or something… I swear it was somehow 11 related

B Love: yeah, going to stay with him in NY at the end of this month

Jay Dick: wild, so it was highschool? and just bro’s wild ha

I never been to N.Y., is it the City you’re going into or what? that should be good times with friends huh

B Love: You never been? Crazy
Yeah NYC

Jay Dick: yeah, muh lady prolly be the reason I go, it’s so much i mean overload for me maybe ha

wild

I wanna go to Tokyo or Hong Kong one day for sure, he lives in N.Y. or just meeting up to hangout or something

Get this… I’m getting Married, you ever done the Marriage thing?

“thing” I don’t mean to belittle it at all ahah

B Love: Nope, never been married. Congrats man, When’s the date?

Jay Dick: Gracias, not set in stone yet but with next 12 months, 7 year relationship
yeya
where’d your nickname come from and why haven’t I asked this before?

B Love: Mo Sanders saw me talking to some girls at a contest and coined the name “b love.” It was a wrap after that. Even people where I work call me that. To really drive it home, Al Gore owned a company I worked at and he even knew me by that name. No lie.

Isn’t 7 years technically married? Haha.

Jay Dick: Nice, sheesh. Mr. Love! Yeah I think, not sure if that’s state to state or federal. You still making music man?

What was it, ‘the fetish’???

B Love: Nah man, haven’t written a song in years. The Fetish ended years ago. What about you. You got new cuts right?

Jay Dick: Dam, you’re musical man, is there anything I can look forward to from you maybe musically? Yeah, I’ve finished the audio on 3 projects, 1 long mix and 2 mixtapes/albums… just gotta wrap up artwork/tracklisting etc, they will be pretty funky man – not too shabby, and FREE aha so that’s always good

today was long… headache city, got sun burnt trying to soak sun in and feel better while drinking water like a sponge…

What’s going on this weekend for you?

B Love: Awesome! Can’t wait to hear some! I keep telling myself I am gonna set up the studio and start writing again but haven’t yet.

This weekend probably just work and watch Lakers vs Heat

Jay Dick: yup yup ahah lakers man, such a trip, I almost prefer seeing this adversity and so many change of tunes this year with them… than the typical normal thing ha

Jay Dick: (yoooo what you think about ending it here) ha, unless there was something you wanted to add;) I’m thinking about using everything… like the part where I hint against it becoming interviewy etc:/ just curious your thoughts before I post it;)

B Love: I think that’s it! Just look for the show I am working called “Barely Hanging On” on Bitesize Networks.

Let me know when you are in L.A. and send me tracks

Jay Dick: niceee I am gonna be in Ventura from Monday night until Friday, working mostly but got some freetime, I’m gonna have to hit you up for a drink at least…
