EVENTS: A Chosen-Few done Santee Style

Your host with the most.

While we wait for one of the half-dozen photographers shooting action at the A Chosen-Few comp hosted by Santee to process and color-correct their stuff, we’ve got a batch of our own personality stuff here to give a glimpse into the unique experience that happened in San Diego while many waited for the end of the world.

Looking back at downtown from Chicano Park. This place was a wind tunnel. Easily 15 degrees cooler in the shade and wind.

Getting warmed up. Waiting for people to show up.

This guy was fucking nuts and talking about trying to open a can of food for his dog.

Dima the Crasher looking less crashy.

RollerBoots666 is trying to show you his nuts. R-Money$$$ does not mind.

If Cheech & Chong had made an appearance, this would have been their whip. So choice.

Best/highest shifter knob ever.

The Fuzz came rolling through. They left.

Nick approved.

Furniture Frank’s shirt said it all.

R-Money$$$ trolling these locals.

Poor bastards didn’t know what hit ’em.

The Mick was in special form.

Bleacher seating.

VIP Box seating.

Of course there was a grill with cheeseburgers and hot dogs. Proceeds benefitting Best Trick.

Gathering crowd.

Event in progress.

Matt Lewis wants you to read The Radvocate.

Dre checks ink, we check Dre’s t-shirt.

Grace under pressure.

Anthony Williams in the VIP box.

Executive Level VIP seating.

Nick’s truck made for great stadium seating.

Something is about to happen!

Jeremy Condamine and Dave Lang (who is awesome).

OG Senate crew on the scene.

Carlos Kessell rolled down with Venice heads.

Homie in the middle of this secondary ViP section was the proud owner of the “Cheech & Chong” van.

Santee put in lots of elbow grease and about $600 to transform Home Ave. ditches into a skatepark of sorts. Here’s the entrance.

Russel Day eventually took 2nd place. He’s held down San Diego forever. He was claiming to be the weirdest blader in SD. What do you think?

Chris Calkins is one of our new favorite skaters to watch shred. Okie is on point.

Carlos puffing up for the lens.

Lawn seating at the Home Ave spot.

Jersey boys hanging around and enjoying the local thrift action.

B Bell and Beau kicking it with the lady who lives under the overpass.

Wood doing some last-minute touch up. The whole place flooded the night before when the improvised damns gave out. Yes, damns were built.

Second drop-in spot.

And… Johnny Law is on the scene. We were 100 deep in a ditch across from a SDPD compound.

Getting wrangled in for the cops.

There were people all over the place. Cops must’ve been shocked.

Steady on, mate.

A little hassle ain’t gonna keep Ricky or Louie down.

Not even kidding, E Rod and Franky were the last ones to arrive before the cops. Heat.

Mickey soldiering on.

One of the amazing obstacles Santee built. This was a speed deal that I only saw Calkins use. Wallride(?) to 180 to flat.

Leaving what would have been a super-epic spot. Check the camel rail. Soderburg and Tim Franken were skating it.

Check the raindow box. Shit is dug into the ground. Santee don’t play.

As I told this whole crowd, the parking lot of (a gravel lot adjacent to the ditch (and across the street from a police compound) looked like the parking lot at Knott’s Berry Farms.

Lots of cops.

Minor shakedown, no real problems.

So everyone went to Memorial Skatepark. Including the grill.

Sorry skateboarders, we swarmed your session.

Legends with clipboards.

With a time machine we would smack that dick with the purple shoes.

Trouble began to brew.

Haffey sizing up some hecklers.

Haffey and crew telling these kids where to stick it.

Seeds planted.

This wasn’t staged. Homie wants to know what’s up.

The comp went to a final spot but we weren’t able to make it. It was a down rail and we’re told everyone got loose like whoa. Tyler Hester pulled out some shit and took First, with Russell Day Second. More details coming when we inevitably post more pics.

Photos by the guy with the little camera.
