585 miles and the hottest weekend of the year in Texas. A late start to my venture brought the opportunity of a pit stop in Houston to bomb the infamous ‘Jesus Saves’ parking garage and skitch through downtown with Bladie, Lindsay Costello, and established members of the Gentlemen’s Blading Club, Josh Ferguson and Eric Milliren. Another three hours through the luscious Texas hill country landed me at the capital in time for coffee and cigarettes with Professor Frank Stoner. After discussing the early events from his morning and making a few phone calls, a session was quickly in the works.
It honestly doesn’t matter what day of the week you end up in Austin. It will always feel like the weekend. After fighting through the day’s heat Andrew Broom, myself, and a few other LST members ventured out to South Austin in hopes of getting “the shot.” Broom’s timing to the Texas scene couldn’t be better. He hucks a stylish 180 to the street just warming up. Followed by a fakie seven and ending with a fakie nine. (Keep an eye out for those in the upcoming Austin edits.)
The night ended with a box session that was just shy of 20 deep. I sometimes forget how solid the blade scene is in Austin. With young guns like Mason Richard and Timona Kasue, to some of the OG bladers like Jay Geurink and Michael Stein still doing tricks that blow me away. Over all I’d say my 36 hours were well spent and very productive. That might be the only time I can say that to be the truth. If you ever come to visit make sure you bring your drinking boots.
