BLADE LIFE: Revolution in Alaska Wrap Up

AK

Well, the good times had to end. By now most everyone is back at home and in their groove. Our final days in AK went by in a flash of sick tricks and Alaskan brewed alcohol… a combination that kicked off with an innocent trip to the local brewery then carried over into Friday night, with a lot in between. Check it out.

At the free sample counter inside the Alaskan Brewery Doug gets up close to capture host-with-the-most Tony Hand doing his thing. Before leaving Doug threw down and bought a 5 gallon keg of seasonal “rough draft” beer called Boogie. Damn it was good, and fueled our beach-side cookout that night.

While cooking and drinking on the beach, we watched the moon set over these mountains about ten minutes before the sun rose over our shoulders… which was around midnight.

The next day after our spot-hunting routine we headed downtown to catch local blader Norman Flood take part in a customary native dance ceremony. This is all the guys hiding from the rain and waiting for the show to start.

AK

At one point during the show performers came into the crowd to get new people to participate. We don’t think they knew what they were up against when they picked Mike French. Boy has got some moves…

Later our entire troupe stormed the Imperial Saloon where we captured the locals getting down en masse. The dance floor was empty for a bit so I organized a Hyphy dance-off between Damien and Nick, and moments later this was going on. Nick is stunned.

What’s a good, wild night out without a little ralphing. Connor lets his insides fly which is a good signal to end the night. It was a long ride back to the cabin (with Connor booting more the whole way), and an even longer two-hour wait for the trip to the airport at 4:30 am.

AK

And like that, the trip was over. Spira, French, Acers and I were on the same 6:00 am flight out of Juneau, and we were all pretty loopy as we made on way through the airport. Spira was such a mess I bet him $5 he wouldn’t even make it onto the plane. He did, despite misplacing his ticket while going through security, so I paid up in Seattle. Then the guys crashed out in a Burger King during our 4-hour layover while I did some web surfing.

It was a great trip, and be sure to check out all the skate action and full write-up in ONE #6, coming this August!
