About a week ago we got an email from this guy in New York who was pissed off that some other emails he’d sent never got responded to. Well, after changing email hosts a few months ago, no one had been checking the “submit” account. Oops. After apologizing, the ensuing dialogue brought ONE into contact with Art of Rolling creator Angelo Ferrer. And now that conversation brings us to this picture of Chauncey Jenkins, and marks the first installment of Angelo’s PHOTO JOURNAL. He assures us there are more to come, and we look forward to seeing more of what’s going on in NYC. — ONE

Some spots have been around in New York for a long time and serve as landmarks to our beloved city. Growing up, one of those legendary spots was The Golden Kink; almost all of the great New York legends have had the privilege to skate this rail. Rich with skate history, this cathedral also happens to hold its own record as being the biggest in the world. Tours go on here six days a week from 8 am to 5 pm, and skating this rail for the last couple of years has been a hassle. As far as I’m concerned, there haven’t been any pictures taken at this spot in years. Chauncey Jenkins is a Crown Heights, Manhattan local, his talent is wild and fierce; everything he skates is fast paced and finessed. I didn’t know which angle to capture this picture at because every second a different tour bus would stop by, and the spot we set up to take the picture had to be moved to the next rail. At one point, an usher boy came outside and cleared out some homeless people from the steps that were watching us and asked us to leave as well. We waited for him to walk back inside, and in an instant, Chauncey came off with a slick and fast Top Acid down this legendary kink. I luckily framed him in the arch, making this a favorite shot. — Angelo Ferrer
