PHOTO JOURNAL: Thomas Vahe #1

All the way from across the Atlantic, I bring you this PHOTO JOURNAL straight from the Netherlands. Although it took him some time to master the curb perfectly, doing spots like this one for a photographer is no problem for Rik van Huijk. As he was in the process of perfecting this Back Royale, it gave me the time to find the right angle and frame for the shot. I used my favorite 50mm 1.4 lens. To get more defined and brighter colors I used a polarization filter that I always use when the weather is nice. This spot can be found near the train station in Zoetermeer, a suburb of The Hague full of sick skate spots (approximately 45 minutes from Amsterdam). Give us a shout if you’re ever in the area, we’re always down to roll! (technical data: 1/1000, F4, 200 iso) — Thomas Vahe

i was wondering if there are any advantages in using a lower iso speed, because i know it reduces graininess, but you had it at 200?

What skate setup is he rocking?

  • Thomas Vahe - June 15th, 2009

@ tommy: Lower iso means usually better image quality. I always try to shoot with the best quality setting.

Good stuff. Great to catch a glimpse of the scene out there. And happy to see someone else call the 50mm their favorite!

Good stuff good stuff. but on that ledge I would have liked to have opened the ONE website with a tru topsoul or misfit or zero spin misfit or cross grabbed alley oop fishbrain especially on a ledge that tiny. No disrespect, all Im saying is that if I were the photographer, well frist of all if I were the photographer I would not even b on this website Id b out finding Aaron Feinberg or Mike French somebody whos put the proper amount of time and dedication to deserve a spot on the pages on believeinone.com. Thats my take on the issue if you got a problem with me you can find me either in St. Paul, Phoenix, or Cali. Ya thats right wee man Im a blader(been skating for about 19 years and also Im rich.(got 3 houses.) So John Haynes maybe you should do a little more homework cause Ive skated with you.
