ROLL IN PEACE: Brian “Cozmik” Scott

Brian

If everything went the way we wanted, then Brian Scott would have continued to impress the skaters around him and would have eventually established himself among the long line of great skaters in NYC. The title “great” has been thrown around a lot in NYC, but I think we need to look into the word “great” and compare it to Cozmik and see what the two had in common. Cozmik was a great friend to many, and made great jokes, he had great skating skills, and had a great inner personality. He was grateful for what skating had done for him, and skating was grateful for what he has done for it. When it comes down to it, “great” may be an understatement. The word we are looking for to define this great human being may not even exist. If we as fellow skaters felt his presence this strongly then imagine the family that was fortunate enough to have known him for years…

The best-known elite skaters in NYC never put Brian down, they always helped him and showed him a spot to feel comfortable at. When watching Cozmik skate for the first time a person may ask themselves “Who is this kid and how come I’ve never heard of him?” He could skate with the best skaters and not only standout with his skills, but he would bring a unqiue happy, sensational vibe to the session. He would make a joke before his trick and right after it; whether he landed his trick or not you would see a smile on his face. When I think of the statement “life is not fair”, this situation falls into that category. When somone who is as kind-hearted and intelligent as Brian gets mixed up in a sitiuation like this you can’t help but question it from all angles. Why him? Who would do this to him? The only answer you may be able to come up with would be life is not fair, and if you think from a outsider’s perspective you can only try to piece together what it may be like or feel like if it had happened to somone you know. If there’s anything to be learned from somthing like this, it would be that life is special and never promised, but once in a while an indiviual comes along and brightens your life just for a moment and the things they do and say will forever be engraved into your memory.

I can speak on behalf of all the NYC skaters when I say that Brian Scott was truly a skater to keep your eye on. But since this has occured we are made aware that not only did Brian already achieve a level of recognition along with some of the greatest skaters in NYC, but in the future he would have been in a league of his own. Being an amazing person and having a personality can seem rare for skaters, but Brian could do any trick in skating the same way he could make anyone laugh. Ask a skater in NYC if they have had an online conversation with Brian and chances are they will answer “Yeah, at least once a week.” He not only stayed in contact with everyone, but everyone stayed in contact with him. If there was a session without Cozmik you could definitely feel his absence. With blading sometimes you have fun and sometimes you have a blast; if you went out skating with Cozmik chances are you had a blast.

Brian once told us that his passion for the future was to be an actor and do acting. He said skating was something special to him but school was more important. Not only did this kid have a great head on his shoulders, but he had ambitions. In a world where everyone wants to be a rapper and have tons of money, Brian just wanted to do great in school and persue the world of acting. When you mix everything together you have a wonderful person. For everyone who knew him, to those of you who don’t, make sure you keep his passing as a reminder to enjoy the days ahead and to leave a mark with your great personality and your overall presence, because in the end, when people remember you, they will remember who you are and not what you have done. We remember you, Brian, and we remember what you have done and who you are and we will never lose touch of either. Thanks for enriching us with your presence. — Angelo Ferrer

I just cant believe something like this could happen to him ! He was such a sweetheart, and not a lot of boys are like him. He soooo kind. Angelo Ferrer was right, when he said if there was a word to discribe him, it probably wouldn’t even exist as a word. My heart goes out to his family members. I’ll always miss Brian.
