WEB ROLL #15: Lessons in the Shred

Another week and another WEB ROLL. Busy entertaining some friends from Iowa in SF for a little visit, Krans found time to cobble together a quick look at some of the trending blade topics that caught his attention. Give it a look, and let this screen grab of Montre from the WRS trailer motivate you along the way. — ONE

Shred

The Shred Til You’re Dead website was launched months ago, but has been laying dormant other than a splash page announcing sponsors, three state seals, and a promise of “a recession conscious video” featuring “some of the best in the world.”

Well, this week the van got rolling, launching a teaser keeping up to its promise. There’s Bailey, Haffey, Stockwell, Smith and Arias, getting hooked up through some phone calls and hitting the road. Peep it here.

Another video/website to watch is Let It Never End featuring boys from the other side of the lake Nick Lomax, Alex Burston, Andy Spary and Mike Salt. It’s looking to be good.

Some Good Advice

Back in the day, I remember there being big hype over whether stretching was legit or if hitting the gym was against “the skating lifestyle.” There were a hardcore group of skaters who thought the only way to stay in shape for blading was by blading. People hated the fuck out of Matt Salerno because he cross-trained.

Thank God that mentality is gone.

As skating shifts from worshipping teenagers to the top pros working it hard into their late 20s, the idea of body maintenance and a healthier lifestyle is getting more attentions.

Roll Toronto has been putting together interviews with some pros about how they keep themselves in skating by tending to their bodies after injuries, eating well, etc.

The first installment featured Murda and this week Rob G drops some knowledge about joint care, stretching and all that good shit that will keep you blading into your Julio years.

The videos are a bit rough in quality, but the point is there.

Lesson of the Week

Just another day in Colorado — a bear gets stuck in a bowl at a skatepark and climbs a ladder to get out.

That reminds me of a pocketed pet peeve some of my friends have — bladers who bring their women skating. It’s not against female bladers, rather gals who have the Stage 5 clinger sets that won’t leave their dudes go to a sesh alone.

There’s a safety issue here. As well all know, or so eloquently put by Brick Tamlin in “Anchorman,” women’s menstruation attract bears.

Maybe there’s some truth to my friends’ gripes. You bring your old lady to the skate park and put us all in Jeopardy — bears.

Super Bowl

The Super Bowl of blading is nearly here. The World Rolling Series launched its trailer for the finals in Vegas Oct. 31.

With a tight summer tour schedule and the WRS and AIL championships within a week of each other, there’s going to be some hurting bladers.

By the way, that’s ERIK Bailey, not Eric. In case anyone else noticed.

Ubiquitous Item of the Week

Kanye. Fuck him.

As one of my friends said, “I’ve been hating on Kanye before hating on Kayne was cool.”

Comment of the Week

In the middle of on online back-and-forth bitch-slap fest on the Skeptic message board there’s some hilarity ensuing regarding Michael Garlinghouse, but Daniel Fabiano had to go and ruin it by being all rational and smart.

C’mon, bitching about people was the reason the Internet was invented. That, and swapping porn with one another. And crippling the music industry.
