WEB ROLL #16: Hate, Art and Lawyers

Wondering what Krans dug up for this week’s sacrificial offering to the lords of blade bloggery? Well, dig into the new, and congratulate Brian for keeping this up for four months… with many more installments to come. We think this week’s high water mark is the letter to David Sizemore… — ONE

That just happened!

The cats at Shock brought a good interview and profile of Clement Milot, which came with an edit that included two trips around a fullpipe.

Since the Shock kids and I are mortal enemies, watch the video here so you don’t give them any unnecessary hits on their site.

Then again, if you have to click anything there, hit up the profile by Jon Julio on Chris Bjerre (pronounced Be-Air) for a glimpse at one artist that has been graphically raping your blading brain as well as infecting your mind with advertising for gaming and computing.

More Blading Art

Bladers are a creative people. Skating itself is a form of personal expression, so the fact that tons of us are graphic artists, photographers, writers, 3D designers, and a slew of other kick ass things is of no surprise.

That’s why this is so cool.

A good friend of mine Tien Chang, most well known under the moniker QCSKY, has recently acquired the title — besides biggest grom of the decade — as curator of an art gallery in Wilmington, NC, and wants to feature blader artists in all forms. He’s piecing together art in all media for the show, which isn’t just some crappy piecing together of pseudo-talent. It’s a legitimate gig for those who will pass the tests.

Such an expedition is commendable, mainly because it focuses the other side of bladers’ lives, not just the time spent on top of wheels.

Join up or die a life of missed opportunities.

Another Lesson

There are plenty of reasons why people don’t want you to skate their property — destruction of property, insurance, hassling of customers, etc.

Then again, if you’ve ever had a crowd of people watching you skate, leering as you fall or cheering as you lace a trick, you might question some of that logic.

The big reason is money (Duh). Even if everyone is insured, we’re all fucked. Insurance companies don’t like paying out, so when they do, they do everything in their power to get their money back.

Today’s lesson in jackassery is a high school student who broke her wrist skating. Not warned you can break your wrist blading? Time to sue… THREE YEARS LATER!!!

As they attorney in the case said, the school “failed to warn the students about the danger and did not tell them to wear wrist guards,” he said.

We’ve all broken bones, got some stitches, and ended up with prolonged injuries. Then again, most of us understand the whole idea of gravitational pull and have survived to live another day to blade. Either that, or we’re not money hungry fuckers who want even longer warnings at the beginning of blading videos.

If you’re one of those people, here’s my personal warning to you:

Ubiquitous Item of the Week

Dear David Sizemore,

What’s your problem? Can’t you see that hating on you is the coolest thing to ever happen to blading? While people love hating on you, they don’t want you to quit because they’d be left with one less thing to bitch about.

Screw the fact you won the last Hoedown, Last Man Standing and now Mind the Gap. Forget your 540 true top acids, your super-friendly personality, and the fact you make blading look fun as hell. Never mind that you promote safety in blading by wearing your helmet. I’ll let it slide that you’re only 19 and your style progresses daily.

I have a thought, I’m on the Internet and I have anonymity. (Wait, what? My name goes on these weekly ramblings? FUCK!!!) Well, in that case, I’ll come out and say it — I am a fan of David Sizemore. A big fan. That’s right, I said it.

It seems that making such a statement would be like declaring yourself a fan of the Bush administration during the last five years. Then again, he does ride for Rollerblade, which does have a super sketchy history with it’s team.

Fact is David is a talented skater. He can spin-to-win. He can gap anything. He’s not Haffey yet, but I think with more time, he has the potential to get to that caliber. He, Montre and others are the future of blading and if the present is any picture, the future looks bright.

If you don’t like it, shove a bottle of ranch dressing up your ass and toss your own salad.

Which leads us into the…

Comment of the Week

While some people are working, others are hating. It’s great when it gets together for a party. It makes the pastrami sandwich you brought to the office taste even better.

good find on the clement milot profile. i guess u have an eye for skating with steez no matter what if u go big thats considered stylish so thanks for featuring clement in ur webroll and try to continue noticing quality. cause quality is what counts, when u can tell this dude has skated long enuff to know how to spin into tricks, gap into grinds, spinning out of tricks/ seems to me brian krans knows what skating needs more of. thats why he doesnt even bother commenting on the latest conference edit or mainstream media outlets like valo-brand.com. he went out and waited for the hunt like an animal hunting another animal he seeked out quality skating and found it bound it and gutted it.

That edit is some of the most inspirational blading I have seen in a long time.

    congrats justin!

  • Uncle blake - September 28th, 2009

Hating on Sizemore is so 2008. If you haven’t checked the blade forums lately he’s getting the exact opposite of hate when the topic of his name pops up. Maybe all of those wins finally soaked into peoples heads.

BTW, congrats JE. I too have just joined the engagement club!

  • Locell - September 28th, 2009
