Welcome to “Off Topic.” A new series where we ask bladers to share clips and answer a bunch of intrusive questions to find out more about what they’re up to and how they spend their time off skates. Here’s our first installment with Jumbo’s Cody Sanders.
* * * *
What are you listening to right now?
It’s a weird mixture. But most recently it’s been The Budos Band, DJ Screw, Dope Smoker, Discharge, and Glen Campbell.

Got a slam clip we could share?
How bout a clip nobody has seen?
Got any interesting Instagram accounts we should be following?
@Occultured and @simeonturnbuckle always surprise me. Shameless plugs @oakcityinlineskateshop and @jumbo.brand
But most importantly Calvin & Hobbes @ho33es

Any good book recommendations?
“Kitchen Confidential” by Anthony Bourdain is my pleasure read. I bring it on most trips

Can we see some of your favorite pics from your Camera Roll?
I think everyone has at least 10,000 photos in their gallery, so being asked to pick 3 favorites is impossible. But! These are some of the more recent favorite memories I have. Sort of. I tried to keep it as un-mushy as possible.
The black and white photo of me and Kraft was taken from our Barcelona trip after Winterclash a couple of years ago. I had already overcome mild head trauma, had skated 5 days in a row for the first time in over two years, film stress AND found out my car was wrecked in the street in front of my house while I was mid-trip…. A lot of emotions, all at once.
But we’d made it to the end of the trip. Everyone had gotten clips and it was starting to feel like a success. This photo was taken by Mick Casals right after the entire crew had gotten a clip at a spot together. Six people, one plaza and everyone approached it differently. I was stoked.
The color photo of the group was shot by Ignacio Lopez. Nothing in particular is going on in the photo, but it was a perfect day with a large group of the crew. It was before about half of my friends moved away. It was the end of the day and we were sitting on the ground together basking in a good moment. Just the boys and a couple of parking lot beers to end the day. Those are the moments that are rarely caught on film that mean the most to me. Hammers are great, but the moments like that are what keep me hooked.
Lastly, the most important member of the crew, Nola. Nolabear. She’s just a good girl and I love her. So I wanted to add her to this post. She’s Jumbo’s only pro rider.

Best Youtube rabbit holes?
In Deep Geek (deep dives on Lord of the Rings) Cold Fusion (the future of technology) Action Bronson (F*ck That’s Delicious).

What’s something that gets you hyped?
Watching anyone, from any discipline, push their boundaries is the ultimate motivator. The painful act of growth. It doesn’t have to be high level. It’s still entertaining. In fact, it’s better if the person isn’t otherworldly good. It’s more relatable to me.
