I am but a humble suburban mom, living in my little slice of heaven named Westport, Connecticut. At the end of town where I live, we are a beach community; a laid back, enjoy the day, kind of a “life in the summer time” community. But on Sunday, Julu 10th, we had an event at our skatepark that wowed everyone. We had a rollerblading BBQ sponsored by Greg Keiffer, owner of Tri-State Skate skateshop of Hillburn, NY. With some of the TSS team and many, many supporters of the shop they came to skate with our local kids and enjoy the Compo Beach skatepark.

Now we all know there is an abundance of skateboarders and events for them, but this was a ROLLERBLADING event. It was amazing to watch rollerbladers do what they do best. This was the second Compo Beach event Greg has done, and the plan for next summer is already in motion. We need more of these events for our kids to go to and participate in while actually sharing the blacktop with not only pro skaters, but guys who have been skating for many years. People our kids can look up to, be like, and know that with hard work and determination, as well as some broken bones and bruises, they can be part of keeping the sport alive and help it grow. — Debra Newman
