Savannah

With the city of Calgary receiving an early dose of snow from Mother Nature, we had no choice but to escape. The mission: drive as far south as possible to find a place to skate with warm weather and no snow. We immediately loaded up the car and set our sights south on the city of Medicine Hat…

Due to its desert-like surroundings and consistent warm weather, Medicine Hat is a magnet for old people. The ratio of senior citizens to young people in the city is staggering. With an exponentially larger population of senior citizens comes one thing… handicap rails… everywhere! This rail has been a highlight in many Canadian blade flicks, and a favorite of all Southern Alberta bladers.

Shortly after our arrival, Shaun Unwin threw on his blades and hammered this Front Torqueslide out after a few tries. He nailed it the first couple times without grabbing, but Shaun is old school; if you don’t grab it, it doesn’t count… — Chris Wedman
