This was the last shot of a session with Valo Uk flow and Loco Skate rider Dan Ives, who’d already laced the trick of the night, which had us both giddy with joy. But we set up a few more shots anyway, this one being a last minute joke suggestion from Dan. Quickly, I grabbed the Sigma 10mm fisheye to get close to the action and set up the flashes: one to my right at 1/4 power with a diffuser to light the scene, and one to my left set at 1/8 power to freeze the action. Dan started hammering away at the trick, but it was only when the park lights started to turn off section by section that a certain urgencey was felt. And with that the shutter fired one final time, capturing Dan poised in a sweatstance inches above the rail. You can see Dan rip up the highlands this spring during the LocoSkates LoveScotland Tour, or simply go down to Saffron Walden most days of the week to find him there shredding the park to bits with a massive smile on his face. — Sam Cooper
