BLADE LIFE: An Interview with Rob Zbranek

What was your first impression of “Swag” after you saw the final cut?

Honestly, I had chills when the intro dropped and the bass started to fill the room. Anthony Medina definitely stepped up his game and made Texas look like we’re superstars when we’re actually just a bunch of bladers who shred hard and try to make it look as fresh as we know how. But, that is how cool “Swag” is. If you haven’t peeped it, be patient, it will be online soon so all you ‘cheap-ass-I- want-free-edits-till-I-die’ assholes who won’t throw a measely quarter into the industry in order to further our existence far into the future. If this makes you feel guilty, you should go buy some new wheels or a 4×4 t-shirt to rid your conscience of its qualms! Ha.

People are going on and on about what rollerblading needs and doesn’t need. Any thoughts on that?

Rollerblading needs more Arlos, more Rawlinsons, more Roadhouses, more Jacklones! We need more pro tours stopping in at shops you don’t hear about. More “pros” who’re down with their fan base. We need more intimate relationships with the people that actually purchase videos; people who buy from their local shop. We’re NOT rockstars and we need to stop acting like we are. We rollerblade because that’s what frees us from the everyday monotony of LIFE. It’s an ART. It’s absolute freedom. More commercial exposure couldn’t hurt either, if it was indeed done correctly. Investors that believe in us would be dope, too!

Rob has Influenced me since the first time I was able to leave my small farm town and head into Corpus Christi downtown skating. He was the only guy for years that was at the Top of his game and on another level then everyone else. Still even is on a whole notha level.

There has always been drama within the Rolling industry in South Texas so its not a surprise to me to hear that the pro’s treat there lower class in the same way. The LOVE inside the sport must start from the ground up , and I hope ROB starts that LOVE because I do feel he will be the one next big NAME.

Anyone remember Against the One Way?

I’m not down with SYF but I will support ROB Z all the way to the top, he introduced me to Dustin Latimer and plenty of others, pumped me up to do tricks I never thought I’d do. Much Love! Keep it rolling ROB!
